Leading 7 Commands of Jesus

The 7 Commands of Jesus is for discipleship groups. The format is intentionally designed to help disciples become disciple-makers. The lessons are full of life-changing elements, so it’s important to stay focused and get through every agenda item. Though it can be done in less time, two hours is  recommended.

In each lesson, we’ll use a “three-thirds” format. We’ll LOOK BACK, LOOK UP, and LOOK AHEAD. We’ll spend about a third of our time on each section. The LOOK BACK section is a review of the previous week along with some prayer and worship. The LOOK UP section is where we study God’s Word and discuss what God is saying to us. The LOOK AHEAD section includes practical training (PT) and goal setting.

It is essential to complete the entire LOOK AHEAD section for two reasons: First, each PT training is critical to becoming a disciple-maker. And second, we learn what we are expected to do throughout the week at the end of that section.

Practical Training (PT): Each lesson includes a practical training about disciple-making. Each person will need a regular sheet of copy or printer paper, a pen, and a surface on which to write.

All of the PT training videos are also available at JesusDisciple.com. When showing the video, have the volume turned up loud enough for everyone to hear clearly, be prepared to press pause several times throughout the training, and make sure to practice the training at the end so that each person is able to train others.

Walks with God: Each person will watch, listen to, or read one Walks with God teaching series each week. The teachings are from God’s Word so it’s like taking a walk with God and allowing Him to teach you about a particular subject. Each Walk is relevant to being a disciple and a disciple-maker, so bypassing them will decrease the effectiveness of the process. Each Walk has five 20–30 minute “Steps” or teachings. Make sure each person knows there are five Steps to complete each week and how to access them on the Jesus’ Disciple app or JesusDisciple.com.

Goals and Checklists: At the end of each lesson, we will pray and set goals for the week. Make sure that each person sets goals and reviews the checklist before the meeting ends.
