SCRIPTURAL PRAYER FOR MY CITY
“Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1 (NKJV)
WE MUST PRAY…
Father, Your word says…
… in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV), “…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” So Lord, I humble myself right now, and I come before You to pray and seek Your face. I repent of every sin in my own life and ask You to strengthen me to walk in obedience to Your precious word. I also repent on behalf of the sins of [city name] _______________. I ask You now, Father, to hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our city, in the name of Jesus!
… THAT GOD’S WILL BE DONE
And Jesus said…
… in Matthew 6:9–10 (NKJV), “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” So therefore I pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in [city name] _______________, as it is in heaven. Not my will, but Yours be done!
… AGAINST WICKEDNESS
Your also word says…
… in Ephesians 6:12, Matthew 12:29 and Matthew 18:18 (NKJV) “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places,” and, “Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house,” and, “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” So I confront the spiritual strong man of the kingdom of darkness assigned to influence [city name] _______________, in the name of Jesus! I bind you and all of the principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places which have been operating in, and adversely affecting [city name] _______________. I command you to be quiet, and to cease and desist in your maneuvers.
And Father, Your word says…
… in 2 Corinthians 10:4–5 (NKJV) “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God …” So in the name of Jesus I pull down every stronghold which has been built up by the enemy. I cast down every argument, every word, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, against the will of God, against the word of God, and against the vision of God for [city name] _______________.
… FOR OUR CITY LEADERS
And Your word says…
… in 1 Timothy 2:1–2 (NIV84), “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” So I am coming to You to thank You for all the good things that You have done in [city name] _______________. I pray that there would be peace, unity and righteousness in this city. May Your people be able to live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
… FOR GOD’S PROTECTION
Your word also says…
… in Psalm 127:1 and Psalm 91:10–12 (NKJV) “Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain,” and, “No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; 11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. 12 In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.” Unless You protect this city, it is not protected. So I am calling on You, Lord, to protect [city name] _______________ from danger—both within and without. Thwart every plan of the enemy and guard this city from every evil plot. I also ask You to surround Your people with angels so that no evil or plague can harm them.
… TO WELCOME JESUS
And Lord, Your word says…
… in Luke 10:1 (NKJV) “After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go,” and also, Psalm 24:7–8 (NKJV) “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.” So I thank you for sending me where You are about to go. I take my responsibility to prepare the way before You. I choose to become a gate and a door of [city name] _______________. I invite You, the King of glory, to come in. You are the Lord strong and mighty. You are the Lord mighty in battle. Come and fight on our behalf and bring great victory to the kingdom of God in this city.
… FOR NEW DISCIPLES AND CHURCHES
And Jesus told us…
… in Matthew 9:37-38 (NKJV), “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest,” and, Matthew 28:19–20 (NLT), “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you...” So I ask You, Father, to send out many, many laborers into the harvest of [city name] _______________. May every single person hear a clear and impactful presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also ask that You would mobilize Your people to make more disciples in this city than ever before. May there be more salvations, more healings, more deliverances, more laborers, and more glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. I also pray that fruitful, multiplying churches will be planted all over this city, and that the people will flock to these churches to hear the word of God and to be healed and delivered by His power.
