LESSON SIX
PROMISE KEEPER

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Lesson Six. In this lesson we’ll learn how our Generous Creator, Relational Companion, Righteous Judge, and Selfless Savior is also a Promise Keeper. We’ll not only study some of the amazing promises He’s made to us, but we’ll also learn how to receive them. Before we begin, let’s open in prayer.

[Open in prayer]

Because of how many promises and verses we want to cover in this lesson, we’ll read a shorter passage at the beginning. As we read it, let’s consider several questions, including:

  1. How reliable are the promises God made to us?
  2. How do we receive the promises of God?
  3. What promises do we need to pray and believe for today?

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 6:11-18.

DISCUSSION

Okay, before we discuss our first question, let me read a few additional verses:

Numbers 23:19 says:

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (NLT)

Isaiah 55:11 says:

“So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.” (NASB 2020)

Hebrews 10:23 says:

“Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful.” (CSB)

And 2 Corinthians 1:21 says:

“Christ says “Yes” to all of God’s promises. That’s why we have Christ to say “Amen” for us to the glory of God.” (CEV)

Okay, so let’s discuss the first question:

1. How reliable are the promises God made to us?
[Discuss Question #1]

Okay, before we discuss our second question, let me read a few more verses:

In one translation, Hebrews 6:12, reads like this:

“We do not want you to become lazy, but to be like those who believe and are patient, and so receive what God has promised.” (GNB)

Hebrews 11:11 says:

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” (NKJV)

Jesus said in Mark 9:23:

“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.’” (NKJV)

And Mark 11:24 says:

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (ESV)

Okay, so let’s discuss this second question.

2. How do we receive the promises of God?
[Discuss Question #2]

Okay, let’s move on to the third discussion question:

3. What promises do we need to pray and believe for today?
[Discuss Question #3]

Now let me ask our final question:

4. Who should you teach these lessons to?
[Discuss Question #4]

As we close in prayer, let’s begin to use promises in the Bible, and pray that God brings them to pass. Would anyone like to lead out in prayer for something?

[Close in prayer]

CONCLUSION

Now don’t miss our next lesson. We’re going to learn how our Generous Creator, Relational Companion, Righteous Judge, Selfless Savior, and Promise Keeper is also an Empowering Spirit. Of course, we’re talking about the Holy Spirit.
